Cakes
I love baking, mainly because I love cake!
While I would usually choose savoury over sweet, I am also that person who needs to look at the dessert menu before choosing what to eat. For the simple reason that if a dessert really takes my fancy then I will choose a lighter meal. Otherwise, I will be tempted to have a starter and a main, maybe even cheese, and then won't have room for dessert. Or more likely I will have that delicious sounding chocolate cake and roll out of dinner complaining that "I ate too much". My catchphrase according to someone :-)
The other reason I love baking is the focus and attention that it requires. While I'm weighing out all the ingredients, mixing, melting, whisking, I'm not thinking of anything else! Bliss.
Although this blog was never intended to be about baking, there will inevitably be a couple or a dozen posts on baking and the challenge I set myself to make an Opera Cake.
